The health and wellness committee educates businesses on the benefits of a healthier workforce and encourages and provides support for healthier lifestyles in Jefferson Parish. This committee meets on the first Wednesday of every other month at 8:30 AM.

Improving and maintaining cardiovascular health can lead to a longer, healthier life. Better cardiovascular health is also associated with a reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, dementia, and other significant health issues.
 
The April Jefferson Chamber Health and Wellness Committee meeting will feature the American Heart Association (AHA), which will discuss the importance of maintaining healthy blood pressure levels—ideally below 120/80 mm Hg. This presentation will also introduce “Life’s Essential 8,” AHA’s simple guide for living a healthy life. This guide includes key actions such as eating better, increasing physical activity, quitting tobacco, getting enough sleep, managing weight, controlling cholesterol, regulating blood sugar, and maintaining healthy blood pressure to enhance cardiovascular health. Additionally, the AHA and the American Medical Association's “Target: BP” program is a national initiative designed to improve blood pressure control by providing resources and support to both healthcare providers and patients.


LiveWell Jefferson was formed in early 2017 as a new initiative of the Jefferson Chamber focused on creating and cultivating a culture of health and wellness among the business community and residents of Jefferson Parish. Through educating employers on the importance and implementation of health and wellness programs, the LiveWell Jefferson campaign strives to produce more productive employees, help attract and retain talent, build staff morale, combat employee absenteeism, minimize staff turnover and reduce healthcare costs for employers.
